Darius “Seiko” Elmore is a countertenor, educator, and arts leader whose work bridges performance, voice science, and equity-driven cultural practice. Grounded in research across anatomy, physiology, and vocal pedagogy, he approaches the voice as both an artistic instrument and a tool for wellness, identity exploration, and personal agency. A genre-fluid 21st-century storyteller, his work spans opera, early music, musical theatre, gospel, jazz, and contemporary repertoire, including collaborations with living composers that challenge traditional boundaries and expand how audiences engage with vocal music.
Committed to advocacy and access, Seiko champions equitable casting, inclusive programming, and the amplification of historically excluded voices. He currently serves as Assistant Director of the Mosaic Center for Diversity at Shenandoah Conservatory, where he leads strategic initiatives that support student belonging and institutional growth. As the founder of a private vocal studio, he teaches a diverse roster of students—including artists performing on Broadway and international tours—while developing specialized workshops focused on vocal identity, countertenor technique, and embodied performance. He is the Founder and former Artistic & Executive Director of Opera on Tap (Rochester), where he produced innovative programming, launched mentorship and commissioning initiatives, and cultivated meaningful community partnerships during his tenure.
In addition to his leadership and teaching, Seiko maintains an active presence as a performer and educator, presenting masterclasses and residencies at institutions such as Ithaca College, SUNY Brockport, and Innovation Square. He serves as the advisor for Men United for Excellence, an in-house mentorship program at Shenandoah University in partnership with the Barack Obama Foundation, and works as a creative strategist and entertainment consultant for the university’s men’s basketball team. He is also the host of the podcast Making A Difference As A Global Village, which explores how individuals—regardless of background or profession—contribute to the evolving cultural fabric of our global society. His performance experience includes works ranging from Akhnaten to Hansel and Gretel, with appearances alongside organizations such as Opera on Tap and Eastman’s Collegium Musicum. He holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Shenandoah Conservatory and recently completed the Opera America Leadership Intensive, continuing to build a career that reimagines the role of the artist as a performer, educator, and cultural strategist.
